Khyati Mehra Sharma of ‘Khyatiworks’ is a proud IT professional and an equally proud abstract artist. She is not one to shy from saying that her job complements her passion in the most amazing way.
Having dabbled in art and painting since childhood, Khyati never imagined she could turn it into a business. Coming from a technical background and with no formal education in art, she held painting close to her heart during college and thereafter. One afternoon in 2009, she stumbled upon the artwork of Thaneeya Mc Aardle while surfing the net and was completely blown away. For a week after that she couldn’t do anything else but think about creating abstracts. That was when she knew that this was definitely going to be more than just a hobby.
The abstracts that I created were completely intuitive, and when made them, I felt like I was in a trance.
For two years she created abstracts, but was sure that she didn’t want to sell her originals or just exhibit them at a gallery. She wanted her vibrant art reach as many people as possible. That’s when the idea of creating merchandise with her art struck. Thus was born Khyatiworks. She started with greeting cards, and eventually moved to handcrafted jewellery, handmade coasters, hand painted shoes, bookmarks. It has been close to five years now and there has is no looking back!
From jewellery to stationery, home décor, hand painted shoes, hair accessories, prints – each piece is unique and bears the stamp of her artwork. Her products are available on her webstore and at Bengaluru, Mumbai and Cochin Airports at The Lotus House and Popparazzi Stores.
The fact that you only get one life to accomplish all that you can is what keeps her going. That is what makes her give her fullest to Khyatiworks. That is also the reason why she hasn’t completely switched to pursuing her passion. She finds her core tech job just as fulfilling and complementing her art.
I don’t want to regret anything in life, especially that I did not try well or try enough
The joy in creating a unique piece of art is unparalleled. In the 6th month of pregnancy, Khyati is now gearing up for a new phase in her life. Least anxious about how she is going to balance her family life, Khyatiworks and her job, Khyati says “I feel that if you really want something to work, it will and you will end up finding a way out”
In the future she plans to own a boutique that will house all the lovely merchandise as well as have a portion where her original artwork would be on display. She also plans to expand the range of merchandise by getting into textile and leather. Khyati’s story is testimony to the fact that one has to be madly in love with an idea and have endless passion to pursue it.
There is no right or wrong. You are lucky if you are on a path no one has treaded done before, celebrate it instead of doubting it.
